Truffo: Vita, have you heard the latest tail-wagging news from across the pond?
Vita: Oh, do tell, Truffo! Is it about that royal scent I've been catching whiffs of?
Truffo: Absolutely! Our truffle-hunting lineage has just been royally endorsed. King Charles has welcomed a new four-legged friend—a Lagotto Romagnolo named Snuff.
Vita: A Lagotto at the palace? That's pawsitively splendid! Tell me more.
The royal household has gained a new, four-legged member—King Charles has adopted a Lagotto Romagnolo puppy named Snuff, making headlines across the UK. The news, first reported by The Times, The Sun, and Hello! Magazine, confirms that Snuff was a gift to the King and has quickly become a beloved companion. This marks a return to dog ownership for Charles, whose last canine companion, Tigga, passed away in 2002.
While the royal family has long been associated with breeds like Corgis and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, the Lagotto Romagnolo is a rare and distinguished choice. Originally from Italy’s Ravenna region, the breed is famous for its exceptional truffle-hunting skills, making Snuff a fitting companion for the King, who has a well-known passion for mushroom foraging.
The puppy’s arrival at Buckingham Palace follows Queen Camilla’s adoption of an eight-week-old rescue pup named Moley, further solidifying the palace as a dog-friendly environment. Sources say the King has already grown deeply attached to Snuff, and while the pup is primarily a companion, there’s speculation that his truffle-sniffing instincts might come in handy on the royal estate.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the adoption is unrelated to the King and Queen’s upcoming state visit to Italy and the Vatican in April. However, it does highlight a shared cultural connection between Britain and Italy, as the Lagotto Romagnolo is one of Italy’s most treasured working breeds.
Vita: It's heartwarming to see the royals embracing our fellow canines. Do you think Snuff will get an official title?
Truffo: Who knows? Perhaps "Sir Snuff, the Royal Truffle Hunter." Regardless, it's a proud moment for Lagottos worldwide.
Vita: Indeed, Truffo. But let’s not forget—our breed isn’t just about looking cute in a palace. We’re high-energy working dogs who need a job to do!
Truffo: Exactly! If Snuff doesn’t have a truffle orchard to sniff through, he’d better have plenty of adventures to keep him busy. We’re not the kind of pups who sit around waiting for tea time!
Vita: Well said, Truffo. Here’s to Snuff’s new life at the palace—may he get plenty of royal exercise and maybe even dig up a few treasures!
