Truffo: Vita… you’re looking… fluffier.
Vita: Fluffier?
Truffo: Okay, fine. Heavier.
Vita: Rude.
Truffo: It’s science! Lagottos should weigh 24-35 lbs. You might be… above range.
Vita: Maybe my fur is extra curly today.
Truffo: Or maybe those extra snacks are catching up to you.
Vita: …Oh.
Dog Gaining Weight? Here’s What To Do!
A little extra fluff might be cute, but excess weight is no joke. It can lead to joint issues, diabetes, and heart problems—not exactly the adventure life we’re built for! Here’s how to keep your Lagotto lean and happy.
1️⃣ First, Check If Your Dog Is Actually Overweight
Feel for ribs. You should feel them under a thin layer of fat—not sticking out, but not buried either.
Look from above. A healthy dog has a visible waistline. No waist? Uh-oh.
Side view. The belly should tuck up, not hang straight down.
Healthy Lagotto Weights:
Males: 28-35 lbs
Females: 24-32 lbs
2️⃣ Cut the Calories (Sorry, Vita 😢)
🐾 Measure meals – Free-feeding is a fast track to chonk-town. Stick to measured portions!
🐾 Watch the treats – Those innocent snacks add up. Swap high-calorie treats for carrots, blueberries, or green beans.
🐾 Human food is a trap – Cheese, bacon, pizza crusts? Delicious. Also, calorie bombs. Stop the table scraps!
3️⃣ Move That Booty! 🏃♂️
🐾 More walks! At least 60 minutes a day—brisk, not just sniffing every blade of grass.🐾 Playtime counts. Tug, fetch, agility courses—anything to burn calories.
🐾 Swimming & hiking? Even better! Great for Lagottos, easy on joints.
4️⃣ Check With the Vet
If your pup’s eating normal portions but still packing on pounds, it might be a medical issue. Thyroid problems, metabolism changes, or age-related weight gain all need a vet’s eye.
The Verdict? Vita’s On a Health Kick!
Truffo: Alright, new plan. Less kibble, more play.
Vita: Ugh, do I HAVE to?
Truffo: Yep. I need my adventure buddy at peak performance.
Vita: Fine. But I still blame the humans.
Big wags and smaller waistlines,
🐾 Truffo & Vita 🐾
Great post!
